Take the Help When It's Offered!!
Like some of the best teachers Katrina keeps educating us long after she left the classroom. We may not like the learning process, but it is often important to experience.
This article from the Sunday 4-29-2007 edition of the Washington Post contains stunning, but not necessarily surprising, information. To a very large extent lack of preparation and inability to make timely decisions deprived those suffering from the effects of Hurricane Katrina of $1 billion of relief from countries around the globe, even some of our closest allies. Supplies rotted, offers have gone unclaimed while there is still a huge need for support.
One of the outcomes of our efforts should be to prepare to the extent feasible to facilitate rapid response and critical decision-making in order to cut through bureaucratic barriers easing hardships of citizens affected by disasters.
